What's New in Boise State's Art World?
Want to know what's going on in Boise State's art world? The Department of Art has debuted a blog, "What's New," that can be found by clicking on the blog's link on the department's homepage at www.boisestate.edu/art/. "What's New" features news about upcoming exhibitions, speakers, scholarships, faculty and student work and more. The blog is intended to be a resource for students and for alumni who would like to keep up on the events and opportunities offered by the Department of Art.

Boise State University's Ahsahta Press has announced the publication of two spring releases, both long-awaited second collections: G.E. Patterson's "To and From" and Chris Vitiello's "Irresponsibility."

Boise State University has named longtime faculty member Pat Shannon dean of the College of Business and Economics, the university's internationally accredited business school.

Materials Science & Engineering Students Win Big at Annual Meeting
Graduate and undergraduate students from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering made a big splash at the recent Minerals, Metals & Materials Society annual meeting in New Orleans. Adviser and MSE professor Megan Frary and 10 students participated in the conference.

Here are some of their accomplishments at the conference:

  • Boise State took second place in the TMS Materials Bowl. Team members were Becca Ahern, Pat Andersen, Sharla Hopkins and Alex Miller. They won $1,000 for the student club.
  • Doug Kellis received a $3,000 scholarship from the Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division and also received a $500 travel grant to attend the meeting. Ahern and Miller each received $500 travel grants to attend the meeting.
  • Sharla Hopkins won best undergraduate poster in the Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division.
  • Jemima Fernandez won best graduate poster in the Electronic, Magnetic, & Photonic Materials Division.
  • Mariela Bentancur won Best of Show poster from among all student poster contest entries (graduate and undergraduate combined) and best undergraduate poster in the Electronic, Magnetic, & Photonic Materials Division She received a $2,500 cash prize.

College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs

BSU ROTC Cadet Earns Prestigious Leadership Award
Phillip T. Turner, an ROTC cadet and senior history major in the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs at Boise State University, was recently selected to receive the George C. Marshall ROTC Leadership Award.

BSU Criminal Justice Students Awarded Top Honors at National Conference
Boise State University Criminal Justice honor society students received several national awards at the recent Alpha Phi Sigma national conference held March 12-14 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

BSU Talkin' Broncos Leave Few Trophies Behind at PKD Regional Championship in Oregon
The Boise State University Talkin' Broncos were recognized as the top competitors in the region at the Pi Kappa Delta 2008 Tournament of the Great West. Schools from Texas, California, Washington, Idaho and Oregon competed for the regional championship at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.

BSU Communication Department Holds Convention April 7
The Boise State University Department of Communication will hold a Communication Convention from 3-5:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the Student Union Hatch C Ballroom. Sponsored by the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) student organization, the event has been developed by students in the Conference and Events Planning course (COMM482). This informal gathering is free and open to the public.

Delta Epsilon Chi at Boise State Announces 2008 State Career Development Conference Winners
Three Selland College students won awards at the Idaho Delta Epsilon Chi State Career Development Conference Feb. 21-23 in Lewiston and will compete at the International DEC Career Conference in Atlanta, Ga., April 12-15.
