Taco Bell Arena

March 20th and 22nd NCAA March Madness

NCAA March Madness comes to Boise in 2009, and there's no better place for college basketball than Taco Bell Arena! Boise will be the site for eight of the 64 teams in the first-/second-round sessions of the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. Two of these teams will advance to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Beat Coach Pete

Lace up your shoes and put your game face on! The Beat Coach Pete Fun Run for Student Scholarships is a great way to do your part to help Boise State students. The featured racer is Coach Pete of the Boise State football team. It's your chance to see if you can indeed "Beat Pete." And if you Beat Pete, you'll receive a special "I Beat Pete!" t-shirt, along with a year's worth of bragging rights! Climb Mt. Neverrest

We're bringing back an old favorite! Throughout the month of April, chart any mileage that you walk, run, or hike. Record your mileage on the log on the Fitness Program Bulletin Board. Watch your progress as your "climber" moves up Mt. Neverrest. It's 70 miles to the top and everyone who makes it will be rewarded! Registration continues until April 3.

Go Green, Get Lean!

This alternative transportation challenge encourages you to leave your car at home and get moving! Ride the bus, carpool, walk, or bike. Finish the six weeks with 36 alternate one-way trips and receive a t-shirt as your reward, not to mention the great feeling you'll get from helping reduce vehicle emissions entering the air. Birds of Prey/Snake River Canoe

We will spend one night camping on the river as we float from Black Butte to Swan Falls Dam. This stretch is suitable for canoeing and is a great place to check out the natural history and beauty associated with the Snake River. Additionally, the raptors in this area include everything from golden eagles, kestrels, and northern harriers. We will float downstream and enjoy the spring as we watch the birds soar through the canyon walls above us. Registration continues until April 4.

Kayaking 101 – Introduction to Kayaking

This educational seminar offers students an opportunity to explore the basic techniques of kayaking. In the pool we will learn its history and equipment, stroke techniques for proper boat control, and the Eskimo roll. The days on the river will cover hydrology, reading the currents, eddy turns, ferries, and river safety skills. Registration continues until April 4.

Used Outdoor Equipment Sale

On April 4, drop by and check out the great deals on the Outdoor Program's outdoor equipment. All whitewater equipment will be sold through a two-hour silent auction process to the highest bidder. All non-whitewater items will be individually priced and sold on a first-come/first-serve basis. Items are for sale to Boise State students only.

Women's Yoga Backpacking

Spend the weekend with the women of the Outdoor and Fitness Programs on an adventurous and refreshing backpacking trip. This trip will take you into the stunning southern Idaho desert canyons. You will spend your days and nights hiking, laughing, enjoying stunning scenery, and participating in rejuvenating yoga. Registration continues until April 10.

Need a break from stressful classes on a Monday? Is a four-course meal at a swanky restaurant out of your price range? Let us introduce you to Dutch oven cooking and more importantly, eating. Mountain Biking

Here is your chance to hit the trails with a local guide. We will be heading north of campus to explore some of the lesser known Ridge to Rivers trails. This program is designed as a "no-drop ride," to accommodate both new and experienced riders. Participants must provide their own bike and helmet. Registration continues until April 17.

Ridge to Rivers Evening Hike

Spend the evening in some of the most beautiful areas in our region and still be home in time for a late dinner. We go to some of the more remote and rarely explored trails in the expansive Ridge to Rivers trail system. Registration continues until April 24.

Wilderness First Responder

Wilderness First Responder is the industry standard for wilderness medical training. Course topics include, but are not limited to wound management, realigning fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, allergies, hypo & hyperthermia, gastrointestinal, infections, cardiac and respiratory conditions, patient monitoring, and long-term management and care. The course is taught in a hands-on manner with an emphasis being placed on planning, prevention, and decision-making. There is an on-line portion that all attendees must finish prior to attending the course. Registration continues until May 1.

California Coast and Redwoods Backpacking Trip

Have you been to the northern California coast? The Redwood Coast offers something for everyone: the tallest trees on earth, ferns from the Mesozoic period, and amazing beaches. Celebrate finishing another year at Boise State University, and take a vacation before you begin your summer job. Registration continues until May 1.
